Over recent years the government has introduced legislation for schools such as the 'Every Child Matters' initiative'. This policy has paved the way for 'joint working' between professionals.

SLT believe that successful joint working can be achieved through:

Encouraging joint problem solving between the teaching staff and the therapist.

Offering flexible working patterns to ensure professional support at a time convenient to the school.

Providing training for Teachers and key staff in how to identify children with Speech and Language Therapy needs and how to carry out therapy programmes.

Administering therapy on an individual basis, group or via a whole class approach.

Implementing consistent termly blocks of therapy for individual children and/or groups of children.

Giving clear and concise classroom advice and strategies.

Providing therapy programmes, resources & targets for Individual Education Plans.

Writing comprehensive clinical reports with recommendations for future management.
